Mercado y más

Next week Spanish II will be hosting a mock "Mercado", or Market. Each student has been assigned the part of Vendedero, Vender, or Cliente, shopper.  This will give them some experience with shopping and haggling in Spanish. It should be fun, and they will learn to shop on a budget. Each Cliente will choose a random envelope containing "Pesos". Some will be very "Rico/a" and some will be pretty pobre.  I am really looking forward to out Mercado!

Spanish I will continue to work on descriptions. We will also start conjugating verbs. I can almost hear their excitement!;)  While it can be a challenging skill to learn, it is a very important to learn how to conjugate verbs to improve communication skills.

On a side note, we will be having a student teacher in the room Feb. 25-April 26. Mrs. Frittel is currently student teaching in the FACS room. We are looking forward to having her student teach in Spanish!

Maracas

The Hispanic Heritage month will be wrapping up next week. In honor of the Hispanic Culture we will be making maracas in Spanish I and II classes. We will also be learning/reviewing colors and shapes. Students will be taking NWEA tests next week, and this activity is easily adaptable to absences.  If students do not have enough time in class to complete their maracas they may come in during 8th period or before/after school. It should be a fun cultural activity, and hopefully we will keep the room somewhat mess free;)

"Maracas are musical instruments essential to Latin and South American orchestras and bands. Mareacas were first created and used by native Indians in Puerto Rico. Maracas in Puerto Rico were made from the fruit of the Higuera tree."
